KAPWEPWE'S WIDOW THANKS PRESIDENT SATA

Chinsali, November 15, ZANIS---Late Freedom Fighter Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe's widow Salome has thanked President Michael Sata for naming Ndola International Airport after her late husband.
Mrs. Kapwepwe said she was very excited and gratified that President Sata has recognized the important role her husband played during Zambia's independence struggle.
She said the naming of the airport after her late husband will always be a memorable one because it has been done while she is still alive.
And Mrs. Kapwepwe has welcomed government's intention to create a tenth province in the country.
She observed that Northern Province is very vast hence it has been lagging behind in development.
Mrs. Kapwepwe expressed optimism that the creation of Muchinga Province will help to accelerate development in the northern region.
She was speaking at the weekend when Northern Province Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba visited her at her residence in Chinsali.
And Mr. Mwamba said government will continue to honour former freedom fighters due to the roles they played in the liberation struggle for Zambia's Independence.
He said President Sata values the contribution of the forefathers and mothers hence his decision to rename important infrastructure such as airports after First President Kenneth Kaunda and the late Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe.
He further said Chinsali District, where Dr. Kaunda was born, will continue to hold an important part in the country's history.
Mr. Mwamba, who also visited late Mr. Kapwepwe's grave a few metres, urged Zambians to cherish the important role former freedom fighters played in liberating the country.
