Police in Chipata are holding a man of
Chafumelo village in Chief Kapatamoyo’s area for killing a brother after an
argument.
Eastern Province Commissioner Grace
Chipalila disclosed this to ZANIS, in Chipata this morning.
Green Mbuzi is reported to have
murdered his elder brother Chipata Mbuzi after a drinking spree on May 13, 2012
around 10 hours.
Mrs Chipalila said the cousin to the
deceased Kelvin Zulu reported the matter to the police who later picked up
Green.
Green is still in police custody and
will appear in court soon.
And Mrs Chipalila stated that on May
19, 2012 police picked up a body of a female in Umodzi Basic School grounds in
Chipata.
She named the deceased as Elina Nkuwa
of Mchini compound.
The Commissioner stated that the body
was picked on Saturday, and that it was still in Chipata General Hospital
mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
Mrs Chipalila said that Police have
instituted investigations and were also looking for the husband to the deceased
who is on the run to help with investigations.
Meanwhile, Chief Kapatamoyo of the
Ngoni people in Chipata has attributed the increase in deaths among his subjects
to excess drinking of illicit brewed beer popularly known as Kachasu.
Chief Kapatmoyo said excess intake of
Kachasu has led to increased criminal activities among people in his area.
He appealed to government to work with
traditional leaders in the fight against illicit beer brewing and drinking in
chiefdoms.
The traditional leader said this in an
interview with ZANIS.
Chief Kapatamoyo said youths are no
longer productive because they start drinking in the early hours of the
morning.
“We need to fight this and ensure that
youths engage in productive issues other than alcohol intake because it is
retrogressive,” he said.
