The two-day media training workshop on
Extractive Industries organized by the Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has
come to a close with a call on journalists to bring out issues on
accountability and transparency in the management of minerals and other natural
resources.

Secretary Reveled Susan Matale the council has embarked on a campaign to ensure
that all citizens especially the poor and marginalized benefit from the
resources which the country is endowed with.
Rev. Matale noted that the country is
endowed with abundant natural resources but its people are poor hence the need
for the church through the council and other partners to come in and facilitate
the distribution in order for the weak in society to benefit.
She stated that the church and the
clergy have the mandate to preach the word of God to people but cannot do so
when its congregants are poor adding that to effectively deliver the gospel,
there is need to address people’s basic need that include their the way
resources are distributed.
Rev. Matale called on the media as the
fourth estate of government to partner with the faith based organizations and
other well meaning Zambians in revealing the wrong doings and injustices in the
communities.
The just ended media training workshop
which was held at Kingsley Mweenda Lodge in Lusaka’s Makeni area drew participation
from various media houses and news agencies from across the country.
